Proofing Multiple Fonts / Styles

In addition to font files (ex: .otf, .ttf), you can proof fonts/styles from projects currently open in Glyphs or RoboFont. This allows you to make changes to your design and quickly update your proof PDF with the click of a button.

The connection to your font editor is facilitated by a lightweight “companion plugin.”

Requirements: Glyphs 3.1.1 or later or RoboFont 4.0 or later. The Glyphs plugin also requires the Python module, which you can install from Window > Plugin Manager > Modules.

Set Up

Installing the companion plugins is done from within Font Proofer—not from the Glyphs Plugin Manager or RoboFont Mechanic. It only takes a few seconds:

Step 1:

Open the Companion Plugin window, from Font Proofer’s menu bar.

Step 2:

Install the plugins for your font editors. Then you can immediately start proofing open font projects!

In Use

As long as a Glyphs or RoboFont project is currently open, you can proof it.

Each time you export a PDF of your proof, its font styles will be freshly exported. This ensures your proof reflects your latest changes.

Add a font style from an open project to your proof by opening the Font Picker and clicking on the ➕ plus button. If Glyphs or RoboFont is not open, or the companion plugins aren’t installed, this button will only show the option to choose a font file.

For multi-style Glyphs projects, choose any combination of masters and instances. You can even proof a combination of masters/instances from Glyphs, UFOs from RoboFont, and already-exported font “binary” files (ex: .otf, .ttf). See Proofing Multiple Fonts/Styles.

In the Font Picker, drag font styles into the order you prefer. The order is especially important for sections that use the Style Comparison layout.

You can select multiple font styles at a time and enable/disable, remove, or reorder them together. You can even right-click a font project style and select all from that project.
